Fluff Brawl Bros. was created for the Epic MegaJam 2021, themed Running Out of Space.
It is a fast, physics-driven arena brawler built for two players sharing a single screen.
Each match becomes a tug-of-war between chaos and control as the arena crumbles beneath your feet.

Gameplay

Players battle across four stacked floors while dodging falling debris, energy turrets, and collapsing tiles.
Each character has unique movement and ability styles such as dashes, shockwaves, and double jumps that can turn the tide of a fight.
Knock your opponent down to lower levels and survive the longest to claim victory.
The match ends when only one player remains standing among the rubble.

Design and Feel

Every detail was tuned for responsiveness and spectacle.
Attacks connect with heavy impact and generous hit-stop, while environmental effects and camera shakes heighten every exchange.
As floors collapse, lasers sweep the arena, and the fight becomes a desperate scramble to stay alive.

Technical Highlights

The project used a procedural grid system for destructible floors, paired with Houdini-baked Vertex Animation Textures for seamless destruction.
Performance remained stable even during full arena collapse thanks to pooled destruction actors and efficient Blueprint logic.
The shared dynamic camera keeps both players framed at all times, automatically zooming and tilting to match the action.

Tools and Production

Unreal Engine 4, Houdini, Blender, GitLab, and FL Studio for sound and impact design.
The art direction leaned into vibrant stylization to keep the chaos readable and fun.

Fluff Brawl Bros. captures the energy of old-school couch battles with the precision and polish of modern Unreal tools.
It is frantic, funny, and built entirely for that one last rematch.
